Final Processing

During firing ceramic components linearly become up to 30% smaller. As a result of this considerable shrinkage, the most exacting of tolerances cannot be generated straightaway during production. Intensive reworking of the fired ceramic is called for.

These considerable demands placed on precision can be generated in the hard machining phase. Easily extending into the 1/1000 mm range!

Since ceramic is extremely hard - Al2O3 is almost as hard as diamond - only the hardest of substances can be used for its grinding. Diamond disks or pastes have pride of place here. But corundum, silicon carbide and boron carbide are also suitable.

Surface quality is vital for the functionality, longevity and aura of ceramic products. This is particularly noticeable with the glazes.

Some of Sembach's engineering products are also glazed. For the same reasons. Glazes provide effective protection particularly from mechanical impact and contamination.

And as far as looks are concerned: Aside from the white and colourless glazes there are also a host of coloured variants specific to customers and products. They bestow on the products an attractive originality specific to the design and firm.
